What Can (and Can’t) Go in a Dump Trailer Rental in Omaha

Renting a dump trailer is one of the easiest ways to get clutter out of your way. Whether you’re cleaning out a garage, tackling a remodel, or helping a family member move, having a trailer on-site makes the whole job smoother. Before you start loading it up, though, there are a few rules that Omaha landfills require everyone to follow.

Some items are perfectly fine to toss in. Others can’t go into a trailer or a landfill at all because of safety and environmental regulations. Here’s a simple guide to help you know the difference.

What You Can Put in a Dump Trailer

Most household junk and construction debris is acceptable. If it’s part of a normal cleanout, chances are it’s allowed.

Household Items

  • Furniture

  • Mattresses

  • Toys, clothes, boxes, general clutter

  • Small appliances that don’t contain freon

Construction and Remodeling Debris

  • Wood and lumber

  • Drywall

  • Tile and flooring

  • Cabinets

  • Non-hazardous renovation debris

Yard Waste

  • Branches

  • Leaves

  • Brush

  • Small logs

  • Bagged yard debris

These are the items most people load during standard cleanouts, and they’re perfectly fine.

What Cannot Go in a Dump Trailer

Here’s where people sometimes get caught off guard. Omaha landfills have strict rules about what they will and won’t accept. If an item is on the prohibited list, we can’t haul it.

Below is a quick overview, but the full breakdown lives on our Prohibited Items page. You can check it here when you need it.

Hazardous and Chemical Materials

Items like gasoline, diesel, oil, antifreeze, paints, stains, pool chemicals, and pesticides cannot go in the trailer. Anything flammable, corrosive, or explosive is also out.

Batteries, Bulbs, and Mercury Devices

Car batteries, lithium-ion batteries, and fluorescent or CFL bulbs must be disposed of at specific drop-off facilities. These contain metals that are harmful if they end up in a landfill.

Medical and Biological Waste

This includes biomedical waste, fecal material, dead animals, and animal bedding. Standard landfills won’t take these because they require specialized handling.

Asbestos and Industrial By-Products

Anything containing asbestos (like certain flooring or older insulation) cannot be mixed with normal debris. The same goes for industrial powders or dusts.

Treated Wood and Specialty Materials

Railroad ties, power poles, and wood treated with creosote aren’t allowed.

Unknown or Unlabeled Containers

If it’s leaking, unlabeled, or you aren’t sure what’s inside, it can’t go in the trailer. This rule protects both the landfill and your cleanup crew.

Why the Rules Matter

These guidelines aren’t just personal preferences. Omaha landfills refuse certain materials because they can contaminate groundwater, release toxic fumes, or create fire hazards. Keeping them out of the trailer prevents fines, protects our equipment, and keeps disposal safe.
